Ancestral Equipment: At level 3, a Shield Maiden is considered worthy of a piece of equipment used by previous incarnations of historical Valkyries. They may select any kind of weapon, shield, or armor, and may decide upon +3 of superior quality enhancements for that item. Every three levels thereafter, the bonuses on these weapons increase by an additional +3. Superior quality enhancements cannot be bought for these items otherwise.
Battle-Hardened +X: Whenever the Shield Maiden makes their soak roll, they gain +X to that soak roll.
Patron Technique X: Though the Valkyries' deities(powerful elementals) sacrificed themselves to defeat the invading Legion fleet headed for the Valhalla system, Shield Maidens still symbolically pledge themselves to one of them as her patron deity, striving to live up to their ideals and hoping that one day they will return. Depending on the deity to whom they have devoted their honor, they have access to numerous techniques that they can use once per encounter per time they have purchased the technique. They have X total points that they may spend buying techinques. The deity that they choose represents three elements, and the techniques they take must one of the elements their deity represents as one of its elements, though a technique with "all elements" can be taken by any Shield Maiden. The player chooses which elements the deity represents, though unless they are creating their own deity it should fit thematically with the deity they've chosen.
All Elements: Valhallan Delivery: A Shield Maiden with this ability can quickly take a critically injured teammate to safety. When they use this ability, they also use one hand action and all of their move for the turn. They can carry a single target up to one size larger than them whose HP is at 25% or less its maximum capacity, and may move a total of 120 feet, or double their normal maximum movement for a turn, whichever is higher, to reach their target or take them away from danger.
Fire: Burning Passion: A Shield Maiden may use this ability to infuse themselves with a surge of energy that allows them to continue fighting even when they should have fallen already. When a Shield Maiden is taken to 0 HP or lower, they may spend a use of this ability to make a personality roll. They may continue to fight for half the result in rounds, rounded up. They continue to take damage, and when they have taken their last round, they will collapse immediately unless their HP have been restored somehow.
Water: Flowing Form: A Shield Maiden can utilize this ability to shift the usage of their Unlock Potential racial ability. When they spend this ability while using their Unlock Potential ability, they may shift a character's gender by spending 250XP of their ability, or their race, disposition, or size by spending 500XP each. Changing someone's size requires the expenditure of 500 per size category difference. If the character purchases a race level while any of these changes are active, they may choose to keep the new form.
Wind: Spiral Dive: A Shield Maiden who is airborne may use this ability to deal a potentially devastating strike to an opponent on the ground below. The Shield Maiden may spend this ability to drop straight down onto an enemy, which uses none of the Shield Maiden's movement for the turn. They gain a bonus of +2 to hit, and if they successfully hit, they add the fall damage from the Shield Maiden's airborne height to the attack's damage, up to 10 feet times the Valkyrie's threat level. If the attack misses, the Shield Maiden may make a Martial Arts/Agility roll with a difficulty of 9 to avoid smashing into the ground. Failure of this roll means that they take all of the damage themselves.
Earth: Impenetrable Vanguard: A Shield Maiden with this ability can stop enemies in their tracks and force them to target the Shield Maiden, rather than their friends. When an enemy is attacking this character's ally who is within the Shield Maiden's normal movement range, the Shield Maiden may spend this ability to take a free move action to put themselves between the ally and the attacker, moving the ally 5 feet out of the way. The enemy's attacks that turn must all target the Shield Maiden.
Sound: Shout of Power: A Shield Maiden may use this ability when they make an intimidate attempt. When they do so, they may add a strength roll to their normal intimidate roll. In addition, their vocal range is considered to be 20 feet further than normal for the purposes of who they may target with that intimidate attempt.
Light: Revealing Sight: A Shield Maiden may use this ability to reveal even magical deceptions. When they use this ability, they make an Intelligence roll. For the result in rounds, they may see anyone who is attempting to hide themselves, gaining a +6 bonus to see anyone hiding or otherwise unable to be seen or to discern falsehoods from a character's speech or body language. With a high enough roll, they may even be able to see invisible beings(though not intangible ones) by noticing small things like where leaves are shifted or the way air currents swirl around an invisible character.
Purity: Judgement Strike: A Shield Maiden may use this ability, in conjunction with a speech action, to deal extra damage to a foe that has wronged others. The Shield Maiden spends this ability and their speak action listing off the target's crimes, and the next time during the encounter that they successfully hit that person, the Shield Maiden adds a die of their personality damage to the attack's damage.
Entropy: Fortune's Favor: A Shield Maiden with this ability can turn a stroke of bad luck into a blessing. Whenever the Shield Maiden makes a skill roll and at least half of the dice roll 1s, they may use this ability to reroll one of those 1s, using the next highest die type. D4s become d6es, d6es become d8s, and so on. D12s become d12s+1, continuing in that fashion. You may use this ability multiple times on a roll, so long as it's used no more times than the number of 1s rolled.
Mind: Unbreachable Morals: A Shield Maiden may use this ability to add their personality roll to a roll made to resist the effects of any single distraction attempt. If the attempt targets others as well as the Shield Maiden, the Shield Maiden may spend their own speak action when using this ability to apply the result of their personality roll to any other rolls made to resist that same distraction attempt.
Body: Refreshing Burst: A Shield Maiden with this ability can add additional beneficial effects to their Unlock Potential ability. When they use their Unlock Potential ability on someone, they may use their Refreshing burst technique to remove the effects of a single spell from their target, or remove the penalties from distraction attempts that are affecting the targeted character. This occurs in addition to the normal effects of Unlock Potential.
