Intent for 2022/23 - Actions identified from 21/22 Impact Review
We have identified handwriting as an area in need of improvement. We are removing the need for pen licences and will be exploring intervention where necessary.
The explicit teaching of spelling has been a focus and is an area in which we have been able to see considerable improvement with some fine tuning still ongoing. CPD has been put in place to support all staff with having the skills to teach phonics and fully embedding this practice remains a priority.
Class Story time (the modelling of reading) remains a priority of the subject leader.
At the end of Key Stage Two in 2022, 69% of our Year 6 children achieved ARE+ in writing (in line with the national average) which represents a notable drop due to the impact of Covid-19. Restoring attainment in writing to previous levels, and better, is a priority in the coming academic years.
