Key strengths:
'Ofsted approved and validated' - successful deep dive into Reading which reaffirms that our processes work and are effective.
Children's enjoyment of reading is clear in the pupil voice.
Writing 'end of key stage' results are closer to pre-covid levels.
Development of systems around phonics, and application in Year 3 and Year 4.
Key Areas for Development:
Speaking and Listening remains an area to develop, and liaising with our new 'Oracy Lead' will be a key priority.
Monitor and investigate the provision for Greater Depth children with reading.
Monitor impact of Reading Fluency training and Grammar training.
Next Step: Clarify the key FEP objectives with Year Group leaders, so they are aware of the key content required to progress writing - the 'MUSTS' in our writing curriculum.

Learning Walks
The Ofsted visit and deep dive provided me with an excellent opportunity to do a guided learning walk of the school. Outcomes from Ofsted were extremely positive from Reading.
In all year groups, the agreed sequence of learning was being followed.
In all year groups, teachers were adapting their planning to support SEN.
Where necessary, children were being given phonetically matched books to support them with making rapid progress with reading.
In all classes, teachers were reading with their lowest 20% readers on a weekly basis to support them with 'catching up'.
The ofsted report reads as follows:
'Pupils who are learning to read are well supported. This begins in Year 3. Pupils who are developing their phonic knowledge get the help they need to become accurate readers. Pupils read books that are well matched to their reading stage. This helps them to become confident fluent readers. Pupils can choose from a wide variety of books that capture their interest.'
Pupil Book Study
The writing moderation process is now well established at Little Green and allows for staff to moderate their books within year groups. As subject leader, I am able to look at areas to develop within Year groups too. I was delighted that governors were invited to attend this process too in the Summer term.
