INTENT: Increase availability of Chromebooks for whole school community
INTENT: Increase availability of Chromebooks for whole school community
Implementation:
✅ All teaching staff now have own Chromebook.
✅ Pupil devices increased from 30 Microsoft Laptops to approx 100 Chromebooks (original laptops converted using Neverware)
✅ DfE Chromebooks provided during lockdown are now all allocated to children with additional learning needs, across the school.
Impact:
Fair availability for whole school with a booking system in place via Google Calendar to ensure no clashes. (Interim goal remains one set per year group, ultimate goal, one device per pupil).
Children with additional learning needs are better supported because of increased availability of Chromebooks outside of 'class sets'.
Teachers have reliable devices that are designed specifically for Google Workspace.
Updates:
May 2022: Need to get feedback from those children that have a device to support learning to see whether they feel it is making a difference. Correlate this with feedback from class teachers.
May 2022: Visit to Tring school booked for 18th May 2022 to discuss BYOD, and try to secure an informal partnership (Tring School is one of the original Google reference schools)
INTENT: To use Google to make learning more meaningful and purposeful.
To follow...
INTENT: To use Google to make teaching more effective and dynamic.
Implementation:
✅ Google Classroom used by children at least once a week by pupils across school - often more. All teachers able to set work on Google Classroom - some using more advanced features.
Impact: Teachers able to set work with very specific detail and instructions, eg links, forms, and can easily see the work being produced.
Updates:
May 2022: This area needs to remain a focus. Whilst most teachers are now familiar with the features of Google Classroom, there is so much more to Google than this. More time to be invested into the 'features', for example Virtual school trips on Google Earth. We need to normalise the 'fun' lessons.
INTENT: To use Google to streamline our processes.
Background to transition to Google: 2017-2022
In the space of a few years, Computing/Technology has undergone quite a transformation:
30 MS Laptops increased to over 100 Chromebooks.
All teaching staff equipped with a Chromebook
A complete transition from Microsoft to Google
All 12 classes regularly accessing learning through Google Classroom
An upgraded internet connection (prior to this, the schools connection was woefully inadequate!
Weekly discrete 'Computer Science' lessons delivered through PPA cover, via Google Classroom
Much improved digital literacy across the whole school community.
Move away from the existing HfL scheme of work to the DfE, STEM, research backed, NCCE scheme, also known as the 'Teach Computing' Curriculum. Around half of this scheme uses Google apps. Those that don't are easily adapted.
