Impact in education is the moment of change between a child and a more informed version of themselves: when they become something/someone a little better than before - a moment of potential change - if only in the short-term memory. This can be facilitated through effective learning relationships with a teacher, parent, class, peer, and, eventually with oneself - the becoming of an independent learner. The 'planning for' and 'measurement of' (Intent and Implementation) an 'impact' -especially when related to an impact on longer term memory - requires careful consideration of the multivariate/inter-sectional complexity of accurately identifying a specific cause 'responsible' for the impact. Children are not grown in test tubes. This is NOT an exact science. See 'The Dangers of Being Mean Governor Training.'

As educators, we recognise the unbreakable nature of Intent, Implementation and Impact. This has also been called the learning cycle - plan, teach, assess - or sometimes, plan, do review. Or some other such translations of truth.
One critical element is that the Assessment, when right, is always driving TWO symbiotic elements:
A summative reflection of the intent and implementation to date AND
A formative opportunity to reflect and enhance the intent and implementation and impact measuring approaches.
This is the nature of learning.
A common mistake is to talk about these elements in isolation. However, working in this isolated way can damage systems and prevent acknowledgement, understanding and recognition of the opportunities to further enhance the systems in place. Or an honest reflection on systems that may not be working in the way we would like. The reality is always more complex!
At Little Green, many of our systems are constantly under research and review and open to further development and improvement. We want the best for Little Green students.
