In this project, students took on the role of a vacation planner to design a time travel experience to Ancient Greece. Students conducted research on the geography of the region, activities guests would experience, and travel expenses. Students considered ancient Greek gods and goddesses and determined which god or goddess would act as a tour guide during the vacation experience.
This experience provided a #LifeReady learning experience through communication, creative thinking and critical thinking.
Students considered the audience for the planned trip and ensured that activities and expenses would be appropriate for that audience. Students thought critically about the geography of the region to decide on destinations, plan menus and activities, and determine the costs associated with the travel experience. Students also communicated to ask for and provide assistance and feedback as the project developed. The project was a creative endeavor linking the elements of Ancient Greece exploration, graphic design, and creating an engaging and memorable time-travel experience.

Embedding 21st Century Skills should be the main focus, especially in Social Studies where many students feel the content isn't relevant to them. #LifeReady skills are so much more important than the content . Thinking critically, writing, communicating effectively and professionally, these are the basic #LifeReady skills our students need. This lesson was the first time many students had ever done any public speaking. Being able to communicate is such an important life skill. This project also gave students to opportunity to think critically and apply their learning differently than what they have in the past. I could tell that students really got invested in their work and were proud of their creations. They were able to start from a template and get really creative about how they were showing what they learned. And I know they gained from this project because even their test scores improved.
