Engaging and practicing creativity with the green screen embeds opportunities for students to engage in deep, creative learning experiences, and allows for a sense of purpose and accomplishment on one’s own terms. It ignites students’ curiosity by tapping into their interests. Learning experiences with academic content that incites passion are more likely to be retained, and therefore applied to later learning. Using the green screen is part of a multimodal approach to learning, and is one of the best ways to differentiate, build knowledge, and inspire creativity. In these 3rd grade classrooms, the teachers have embraced the use of the green screen across the content areas, making their students experts at the technology as well as the weVideo program. Allowing their students to become a literal part of what they are learning has made math talks more meaningful, social studies and science research more authentic, and book reports and writer’s responses more connected to their classmates.

"It was very fun to work with all my friends. I loved it! It was very fun. I would love to do it again this year. I learned so much more by doing green screen."
"I like the H21 experience because it challenges me as a teacher to consider technology integration as PART of my instruction, instead of just enrichment. Heather helped me integrate green screen video-making, appsmashing it with Book Creator, to make student portfolios about their learning. The book about their ancient Greece learning ended with a green screen video, showcasing their knowledge. I was challenged to let this be an open ended project in which students had choice about how they wanted to present the information. I was so excited about the amazing videos they created by giving them autonomy in the creation of the work. They are incredible! We now have a green screen studio open constantly in our classroom for students to showcase their learning to share with the world!"
