Learning EXPERIenCE

The F3 - Faculty Fitness Frenzy project represents LifeReady Learning at Henrico Virtual Learning Academy (HVA) through a unique virtual experience that embodies the LifeReady skills necessary for success in the world outside of the classroom. Utilizing a unique blend of communication, collaboration, and creativity, along with special emphasis on the global citizen attribute, students embarked on an educational adventure that has the potential to impact future generations.

Using twenty HVA faculty as clients, students developed a confidential, personalized wellness plan that included nutrition, fitness, and mental well-being for each person. To achieve this mission, students worked in small groups to make a website that includes the client’s fitness plan, nutrition plan, fitness schedule, reflection button, water tracker, meal tracker, recipes, grocery list, and a means for correspondence with the client.  This website was the only way the client and group could communicate over a period of four weeks.

The learning experience helped the students have an idea of what is needed to be a personal trainer, how to create and modify a personal wellness plan, how to set goals and actions steps based on current guidelines for healthy eating and working out to meet current and future needs, how to promote strategies to help clients through technology (created webpages by the students), and how to assess, monitor, improve, and maintain good health.

What the students like about this experience:

Nashra Cherry - This learning experience helped me become more #LifeReady by allowing me to experience the work of a personal fitness trainer. This benefits me by letting me experience what they have to do in this job field so I am prepared when I finally have to choose my job and have the skills necessary if I choose to be a personal fitness trainer.

Kennathy Jones - This activity has helped with my communication skills and helped me be accountable for my own work. It has taught me what it's like to work in an environment with people who have the same goal as yourself.

Sadie Massey - This learning experience helped me become #LifeReady by helping me gain the skills of building a webpage, creating a product for a client, and designing a fitness plan. I also learned how to be responsive to a client’s needs, incorporate their feedback into the fitness plan, and clearly communicate ideas. My favorite part of this learning experience was when my team made the webpage based on all the information provided to us from the client survey because it allowed us to tap into our creative side.

Aria Ray - This experience helped me be #LifeReady by letting me make a fitness plan based on the client's personal health information and goals. It was my job to make a balanced meal plan to go along with the fitness plan. It challenged me to work together with other students to make a well-organized website, and meal plan, that'd help them meet their goals & experience.

What the teacher likes about this experience:

Watching my students form a partnership throughout the project was exciting.  The students collaborated by using their knowledge from each unit to help their audience become healthier.  By sharing information with the audience through a website, the students discovered a way to spread their knowledge to the faculty as well as to others in the community.   - Ellen Bohon
