Learning EXPERIenCE

This project reflects LifeReady Learning at Glen Allen because it has students combining multiple academic skills to create a visual representation of their learning.  Students researched important people of the Revolutionary War during their ELA time.  Then they created a scene in diorama form.  Students determined materials that could conduct electricity and would activate Makey Makeys.  They added those materials to the diorama as ‘touch points’.  Applying their understanding of a ‘closed circuit’ and Scratch, students programmed each of the touch points to say a fact about their important Revolutionary War person.

What the student(s) like about this experience:

"I really liked how creative this project let me be.  It got our brains thinking and as we collaborated we got to go more in depth in our learning about important people in the Revolutionary War.  Showing our learning in a creative way instead of writing all about learning was really cool." -Rahul C

What the teacher like about this experience:

This project allowed the students choice, opportunities for collaboration, communication, and creative expression. The inclusion of technology including coding with Scratch and using Makey Makey was the icing on the cake. They loved demonstrating their knowledge of Revolutionary Virginians in a hands-on, engaging way.  - Mrs. Hinkle

Additional Pictures/Media/ARTIFACTS

Students used a MakeyMakey to create 'touch points' on their triorama.  When the points were touched, the Scratch programming language started and shared important facts.

Many digital resources were used as students researched their important Revolutionary War figure.

The Scratch programming let  students share their learning by recording their voices.

Students started to research about their important Revolutionary War figure.
