4th grade: ELA
DLIS: Creative Communicator
Communication was key to spreading information on Australia to the school body. Students were celebrating cultural night and students decided to choose Australia as their Country. Students used their research skills to find information using various sites on Clever and explored different digital mediums such as Book Creator and WeVideo to present their information in an attractive and meaningful way. Students worked collaboratively in small groups to articulate their research in written form and created a newscast to creatively bring the information to the school.
Being life ready is important so you can communicate with the people who you are working with. It helps you pay attention to details and challenge yourself. We learned how to use technology to find information and use it to show our work. Communication, Problem solving, Technology, how news reporters do their jobs and patience are skills we learned. Some challenges were not agreeing with the same ideas and recording our voices correctly. We learned some new tools such as WeVideo, Book Creator, and Newsela. This was a class collaboration effort where everyone played a role in our project.
This project allowed students to use their ELA skills of oral communication and allowed the students to deliver multimodal and interactive presentations using Book Creator and WeVideo. Students were able to work together in small groups to take their research and show their comprehension in a digital format. Students had to demonstrate their teamwork skills of listening, patience, and setting roles within their groups. It was a fun experience where students took charge of their learning.
