Second Grade - Social Studies
DLIS Standard - Creative Communicator, Innovative Designer
In this experience, students are immersed in the design thinking process. They worked collaboratively to brainstorm and design an American Indian village and used various materials to build a model of the village. Students demonstrated their communication skills by recording a video to share their knowledge about the tribe and reflecting on their successes and challenges of the experience.
"This was such a wonderful experience for my class. I was amazed at my students’ creativities. They had so much fun talking to each other and discussing the facts they learned in class. They used their knowledge to build villages showing where and how the Native Americans had lived long ago. This project allowed the students to collaborate in a fun way. It was very apparent that they enjoyed themselves, as I heard so much laughter during this process. It was a joy to see. "
