Learning EXPERIenCE

Kindergarten through fifth grade students worked to research, emulate, design and construct one item that would be relevant to a historical figure from the United States. Students presented this information during our Black History Living Museum to share with others their knowledge of their Influential American. They also recorded a speech that was shared throughout our school and community explaining their historical figure’s contributions to our country and why they have been so influential. They went through the STEAM design process to create one artifact that would have (or did) help their influential American.

What student(s) like about this experience:

"The people we studied influenced us to become like them in the future. They encourage us to learn new things and make the world a better place."

"People do not always agree with you, and you have to be brave."

What Ms. Stockton likes about this experience:

"This experience was beneficial to my students by allowing them to develop research and public speaking skills. Students learned about people who are like them which inspired them to set and achieve their own personal goals. The words that my students used throughout this process were 'inspire, learn, and encourage' which are important skills to be #LifeReady! "
