DLIS: Knowledge Constructor
Ms. Cruz wanted a different way for students to demonstrate and apply their learning from their unit on DNA, RNA and protein synthesis. After working with her Innovative Learning Coach (ILC) and librarians at HSHS, we created a learning experience called, "No Body, No Crime: The Mysterious Disappearance of Mrs. Estes Willow" to help students apply what they have learned using Breakout EDU boxes and various puzzles that promote the 6 Cs of the Henrico Learner Profile.
"This experience has taught me about patience and how to be more understanding when working in groups. I have learned how important critical thinking is when working on this activity." - Ashly
"This activity helped the students become more #LifeReady by implementing the skills of open communication, collaboration, and application. They had to speak to their group members and figure out the problems together instead of by themselves. With the help of their team members they were able to see different opinions and act cordially and diplomatically. If someone was unsure of something, everyone put in their thoughts and applied class knowledge to the problem to eliminate wrong answers. The students learned how to work through DNA synthesis, codon reading, and vocabulary questions with the help of their teammates. Using prior knowledge, they challenged each other and made sure to help correct a concept while solving the clues. As they collaborated, they encouraged each other to not give up even if they were frustrated. "
Thank you to the innovators that helped make this experience possible:
