Learning EXPERIenCE

ACE Center Vet Tech students prepared targeted lessons to educate elementary students about the basic pet care needs of reptiles and mammals. Vet Tech students designed learning activities and visited multiple elementary schools to present their lessons. They were able to reflect after each lesson to make improvements. Everyone had a blast learning about how to best take care of our reptile and mammal friends when we have them as pets.

What the students like about this experience:

"I enjoyed asking the students questions throughout the presentation because they were engaged and really interested in what we were teaching. "

What the students like about this experience:

"I learned that asking questions and having hands-on examples help elementary students engage more with the information we were teaching. This process made me realize how much they already knew about reptiles; they had a lot of questions."

What the students like about this experience:

"If I could go back, I would go back and ask questions and try to engage the students more in the lesson. It was clear to see that they wanted to participate."

What the teachers like about this experience:

I really enjoyed watching my students modify their approach as they taught the content to the younger kids; although they started out hesitant and unsure of themselves, with each lesson they became more confident and engaging with the 3rd graders more comfortably.  It was great to see them move past their nervousness and readily share their knowledge, prompting the younger kids to reflect on the content and answering their questions with ease.
