LEARNING EXPERIENCE
Scholars conducted research, made speeches, created visual arts projects (portraits, artwork, green screen movies), decorated the school, and executed several amazing performances (Drumline, Choir, Living Wax Museum) to Celebrate Black History!
What did the Glen Lea scholars like about this experience:
Kadence: “Our project was fun and it helped me learn more about important African-Americans. Our celebration has helped motivate me to talk with all types of people and find my voice.”
MacKenzie: “At first it (performing in front of a large crowd) was scary; now I am more comfortable. I feel good about presenting to an audience.”
Sandrine: “I loved learning about my historical figure. Collaborating with my classmates and teachers to create the tables and artwork was cool. Performing in the Drumline and the choir was awesome!”
Ver’Neisha: “We worked really hard in Drumline and Choir. It was fun to collaborate with students and teachers to see how a program really happens. I loved seeing the community support during our celebration.”
What the Glen Lea Music teacher, Mr. Coward liked about this experience:
"It was fantastic to see how much the students enjoyed putting the program together. The work necessary for the preformances (Drumline, Choir, Living Wax Museum) was significant. We are very proud of our Glen Lea scholars ability to communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders."
