New Mexico locations found!

Finally some new developments on here...I got more than I bargained for on this trip! Today I ventured up to Lompoc, CA to visit La Purisima Mission (now a state park), which dates back to the 1820s. This was used for the bridging scenes in Spring Break Adventure that show Indy and Henry Sr. visiting family in New Mexico before Indy sets off with cousin Frank for the border...

Immediately upon entering I noticed film equipment and cable runs snaking all over the grounds. Something BIG was setting up...and while it was exciting to see it also meant that the main mission building was closed off and security guards were keeping a close eye on anybody wandering around.

Out back behind the main residence building is a small outbuilding, which today was being used as set dec storage for the film crew. This was the train station where Cousin Frank and family greet the Joneses as they get off the train.

As you can see, the grinding wheel in the background is even still there (probably used for grinding olives back in the day).

Wandering into the Shops & Quarters Building, there is a courtyard out back with outdoor tables and and stone oven. This is the exact spot the family gathered to eat. In fact I'd say it's fairly likely that's even the same table they ate on (in a different orientation obviously).

And you guys...check this out - I am pretty sure if you wander into the soldier's quarters just inside...those are the SAME benches they are sitting on (I may have plopped down in Indy's spot).

The spot where Henry sees off Indy on his adventure (in what turns out to be a rather fateful moment in the show) takes place right outside the main residence building, which unfortunately was all closed off (and being closely monitored by guards during my visit).

Indy and Frank walk off to the east into the gardens.

In any case, I'd definitely recommend a visit to this park as the grounds are beautifully well-preserved and it is quite interesting to see how one might've lived here off the land in the 1820s.

Oh, and as for that top-secret production? Well, it would seem it is the next big project from director Paul Thomas Anderson...
