Kingdom of the Crystal Skull film locations
The newest Indiana Jones film included principal photography done entirely in the United States (with some background plates shot elsewhere), followed by an intensive studio shoot in Los Angeles.
The film crew constructed a mile long road for the scene of the military convoy. This was filmed on the Ghost Ranch retreat (private property) near Abiquiu, NM.
Some of these shots were filmed along Highway 84 near Abiquiu, NM.
The entrance gate to Area 51 was built on Corralitos Road, a rural road between Deming & Las Cruces, NM.
The Area 51 Hangar exterior was filmed at Deming Municipal Airport in New Mexico.
The interior of the hangar was built in a soundstage at Downey Studios in Los Angeles (enhanced digitally).
The rocket sled control room was also built in Downey Studios.
The live-action plates for the rocket sled sequence were done somewhere near Corralitos Road.
This vista was shot from a high point on Corralitos Road.
"Doom Town" sets were built near the hangars of Deming Municipal Airport, NM. A large model was also constructed for wide shots at Kerner Optical (formerly ILM) in San Rafael, CA.
The fridge landing was also shot somewhere alongside Corralitos Road.
The establishing shot of the college was re-used from Raiders of the Lost Ark, with some digital alterations (period cars, removal of people). The building is the Faye Spanos Concert Hall of the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. It is located at 3601 Pacific Circle, Stockton.
The hallway & classroom interiors were supposedly in William L. Harkness Hall on the Yale University campus in New Haven, CT.
The one exterior shot of Indy's house was 476 Bradford Street in Pasadena, CA. The interior was built as a set on Stage 29 at Universal Studios.
Indy meets Mutt at the Essex Steam Train at 1 Railroad Avenue in Essex, CT.
Archie's Diner was filmed on the New York Street in the backlot of Paramount Studios. You can see this on the studio tour. In the above shot, the background plate of High Street in New Haven was added digitally.
The motorcycle chase was filmed on & around the Yale campus in New Haven, CT. Here, they make the corner from High Street onto Chapel Street.
They break through the iron gate entrance to Vanderbilt Hall on Chapel Street.
The Anti-Communist rally was on the Old Quad, bordered by High, Chapel, College & Elm Streets.
Mutt & Indy emerge from the Phelps Gate of Lawrance Hall onto the Old Quad.
They head off toward High Street with Harkness Tower in the background.
The study hall exterior is the Sterling Library entrance on High Street.
The interior is the University Commons at 168 Grove Street.
