Florence 1908 (Perils of Cupid)

Unaired in the U.S.

Directed by: Mike Newell

This episode actually featured a lot of location shooting in Florence, Italy. An excerpt from George Lucas: The Creative Impulse (about the re-edited version):

“The film was shot in several glorious locations, not only Florence, but also Pisa, Prague, the Dolomite Mountains in Italy, and in Stockholm (where Max von Sydow was living).”

Early establishing shots look down upon the city skyline from Piazzale Michelangelo.

After visiting the tower, Puccini takes Annie through the Piazza della Signora, where they see the copy of Michelangelo's "David."  This is a bit of an anachronism - since even though the original statue was moved to the Accademia Gallery in 1873, the replacement was not put in place until 1910.
