Russia 1910 (Travels With Father)

First aired: 6/16/96

Directed by: Michael Schultz

An excerpt from George Lucas: The Creative Impulse (about the re-edited version):

“The crew, feeling like gypsy filmmakers, worked in Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Greece.”

The title shot shows the Ivan the Great Bell Tower and Cathedral of the Archangel in the Kremlin, as seen from the east side. The shot was flipped and the train was composited in the foreground.

Opening shots show steam engine No. 524.1110 pulling the train that Indy and family are aboard. It now resides at the Luzna u Rakovnika Railway Museum in the Czech Republic. Also on display here is 534.0323 from the Prague episode.

As they arrive at their destination, Indy and family disembark from the Bluebell Railway in Sussex, England pulled by steam engine No. 592 (which is still in use). This is seen in multiple other episodes. I am still unaware of the station location.

Tolsoy and Indy wander into a small village in the countryside. This was filmed in the Wallachian Open Air Museum in the Czech Republic

Address:

Palackého 634, 756 61 Rožnov pod Radhoštěm 1, Czechia

As they wander about lost, Indy and Tolstoy are saved by the sight of an oncoming steam train. Today, this very same steam engine, No. 423.094 is also on display at the Luzna u Rakovnika Railway Museum.

GPS Coordinates:

The weathered old train station where Indy & Tolstoy have a bonding moment is the abandoned depot at Zelenice, Czech Republic. It appears to be a private residence now.
