The fortress seen at the beginning of the episode was Cesme Castle in Cesme, Turkey. Ships were added to the bay digitally. A flipped version of the same shot was used in Morocco 1918.

The interior of the Germans' train bunker was a set built likely at Barrandov Studios. A miniature mockup of the set can be seen in documentary footage.
