While wearing this special brooch, when you deal the killing blow to an enemy creature, you can use a charge from this item (no action required) to cast the Barrier spell at 2nd level on yourself, using your spellcasting modifier (or highest mental ability score if you lack the spellcasting feature). When cast this way, it requires no concentration, but only lasts for 2 minutes. If you kill an enemy while the spell is active, the barrier is refilled by half it's maximum.

You can use this brooch a total of 5 times, and regain all uses on a long rest.
