The lug slot is chamfered around the top edge and there is a 16 mm guide slot. There appears to be an insert into the lug slot to shorten the slot length by 3 millimeters. The only example recorded has a two digit number stamped horizontally on the hilt flat in front of the guide bar slot in a small font.

Speculation and questions
The insert into the lug slot appears to be a modification similar to that found on Reference #217. The muzzle ring diameter and the numbering on the hilt flat are also similar but without more details it is uncertain if it was modified for the same rifle.

This bayonet is numbered 78 on the hilt flat in front of the guide bar slot in a small font. There is also a heart shaped stamp on the hilt flat close behind the muzzle ring. There is a wedge inserted into the lug slot reducing the stud -to-lock length by several millimeters and increasing the guide slot from 13 mm to 16 mm. The left ricasso is marked COLLINS & CO / HARTFORD / CONN in three straight lines and the right ricasso is dated 1861.
