Information about this bayonet
This bayonet has a one piece, crudely cast, brass hilt with 10 ribs wrapping around the sides and bottom. The top of the hilt is flat and most likely has a lug slot. It has a long and narrow press stud spring retained by a screw on the right side of the hilt. There is a forward swept round disk finial on the bottom of the guard and no finial on top of the muzzle ring. The muzzle ring inside diameter is unknown but looks rather large.
The slightly yataghan blade has wide unstopped fullers.
The scabbard shown is probably not original to this example. It looks like a scabbard for the Model 1861 Whitney Navy rifle bayonet.

Speculation and questions
There is very little known about this bayonet. Only two pictures exist for the shown example and there are currently no available dimensions. The style of the hilt is very similar to other known US brass hilted bayonets with some minor differences. So labeling this bayonet as US is a guess at best. The crudeness of the casting and minor differences in form makes calling it Confederate convenient until more information is recorded.
