Information from other sources
Jerry L. Janzen, Bayonets of the Remington Cartridge Period, pg. 100, refers to these bayonets as "Remington Generic Saber Bayonets". Janzen also states, "Some of the state and local issued weapons (Remington Rifles) may have included the Remington generic saber bayonet. Though typically a brass-gripped yataghan, it has been observed fitted with different blades. This could possibly be the work of Schuyler, Hartley and Graham (New York arms dealer). It has also been observed attached to Evans sporting rifles."
Speculation and questions
At first look, this bayonet appears to be very similar to the Remington Rolling Block Bayonet, Ref #308. But the lug dimensions are noticeably smaller and there is a short guide slot instead of the full hilt length version found on Ref #308.
The rifle that this bayonet was made for is unknown and labeling this bayonet as a possible Remington Rolling Block is pure speculation based on its style. Hopefully more details in the future will solve this question.
