Records show that a total of 2,469 rifles were delivered to the US Ordnance Department from P.S. Justice in 1861 and 1862. It is also possible that additional rifles were sold to state and private militia units. We also know J. Henry & Son sold a sizable number of rifles, estimated at 1,121, to P.S. Justice for resale. These J Henry rifles may be included in the recorded total that were delivered to the US Ordnance Department by P.S. Justice. It is also believed that some of the arms delivered were Enfield pattern rifles possibly manufactured by P.S. Justice using machinery purchased from the bankruptcy of Robbins & Lawrence. Other sub contractors such as John Krider and Henry Leman may have supplied rifles to P.S. Justice on a smaller scale. To make things more difficult the number of surviving P.S. Justice rifles is small and some have P.S. Justice markings whereas others do not.
So the definition of what is a "P.S. Justice Rifle" is complex. Apparently there are multiple rifle variations included under this title. The following link will show what we do know about P.S. Justice bayonets.
