The English influence is noticeable in this bayonet, although the crudeness of its construction precludes English origin. Although unmarked, arms of this pattern have been attributed to Cook & Brother solely by the association of "fit" of these bayonets to marked Cook firearms.
This yataghan blade is 22 inches (559 mm) long, 1.1875 inches (30.2 mm) wide and .25 inch (6.4 mm) thick. The blade has a hollow ground unstopped fuller.
The crude all brass hilt is 4.875 inch (124 mm) long. The upper guard terminates in a pinched, forward-curving cockscomb finial. The bore is .812 inch (20.6 mm) in diameter. The heavily squared lower guard terminates in a thick forward-curving finial representative of the disk type but lacking the internal design detail. The grip and pommel have slender proportions; the former bears many crude, narrow finger ridges around the entire periphery, and the latter features a flattened bird's-head design. The lock-to-muzzle is 4.21875 inches (107 mm).
