Information about this scabbard
The only observed example of this scabbard was found on a Confederate Boyle Gamble & MacFee Saber bayonet and appears to be original or at least long term service to the bayonet.
This scabbard is made with a black leather body and sheet brass mounts. The mounts appear to have been attached to the leather body without rivets. There are parallel lines pressed into the leather running the length of the scabbard's leather body. The overall length is approximately 545 millimeters long. The leather body appears to have been contoured to the shape of the curved blade.
The frog stud is a flat shield shaped disk. An oval cap is brazed to the end of the tip mount.
Further details on this scabbard are not yet available.
