Albert N. Hardin, The American Bayonet 1776/1964
The blade matches the M1855 profile exactly and it is 21.25 inches (540 mm) long, 1.125 inches (28.6 mm) wide and .25 inch (6.4 mm) thick. The obverse ricasso is vertically stamped "GA. ARMORY" / "- 1862 -". The blade is finished bright.
The 5 inch (127 mm) long cast-brass hilt is also styled much like the M1855 pattern. The upper guard terminates in a slightly forward set cylindrical finial. The lower guard terminates in a forward set disk finial. The bore through the guard is .875 inch (22.2 mm) in diameter. The hilt is very well made and could have been fabricated from parts diverted from the Harpers Ferry Armory, or made from their molds.
