Information about this bayonet
This bayonet has a typical Ames hilt type #1. The smooth ribbed brass hilt is 123 mm long and has 16 ribs. The muzzle ring is flush to the hilt flat and the inside diameter is 20.5 mm. There is a forward swept round finial on the bottom of the guard and no finial on top of the muzzle ring. The press stud and 41 mm long spring are typical Ames construction. There is no blade rivet in the center of the cross guard.
The lug slot is chamfered around the top edge and there is a 25.2 mm guide slot.
The yataghan blade is ~500 mm long, 27.8 mm wide, 8.3 mm thick and has unstopped fullers. There are no surviving markings on the only recorded example.

Speculation and questions
The size of the muzzle ring and guide slot leans toward Sharps, Sharps & Hankins and/or Spencer rifles but small bladed Ames bayonets are still unknown to me on these weapons. It could also be for a Whitney Short Enfield Derivative Rifle with a guide bar but I have not seen such a rifle.

*The blade tip has been repointed resulting is a loss in overall and blade lengths.
This example is totally unmarked but its relic condition may have erased markings on the hilt flat. The brass mounted black leather scabbard is unmarked and is probably the correct type for this bayonet if not original.
