From 1855 to 1861, the United States Armory and Arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia produced sword bayonets for the Model 1841 and Model 1855 rifles before its destruction in 1861.
Ames was a supplier to the US military long before the US Civil War and they produced the first bayonet in this study for the Model 1847 Sappers Musketoon. They were awarded several contracts before the war and then became one of the largest producers during the war. Many post war bayonets were produced as well.
