Information about this scabbard type
This scabbard type has a straight black lacquered leather body with exterior sheet brass mounts. The brass tip mount terminates with a flat oval brass plate that is brazed to tip mount. There is no finial.
This scabbard type was made in the late 1840's and 1850's for the earliest brass hilted sword bayonets produced for the US military.
Scabbard Type Variations
This variation is approximately 565 mm long and the oval mouth to the throat mount is completely open.
This variation is approximately 520 mm long and the throat opening has a brass plate, with an opening for a double edged blade, brazed over the mouth.
