Information about this scabbard
This scabbard has a throat mount with a rust resistant ferrous alloy (possibly tin), soldered on the right side and attached to a brown leather body by two steel rivets on both sides of the mount. There is no tip mount but rivet holes in the leather implies that one did exist in the past.
It appears that a U shaped frog loop, now missing, was soldered to the side of the throat mount. The edges of the mount were rolled outward
The throat mount is 75 millimeters long and 40 millimeters wide. The overall length is currently 540 millimeters but probably reached 580 or more in its better days.
The pictured example is in relic condition.

Speculation and questions
This scabbard was found on a pre-US Civil War produced Colt Model 1855 Revolving Rifle Bayonet dated 1859. It was not the original scabbard for this bayonet but has been with the bayonet for a long time. It is believed that it is a replacement scabbard by the Confederacy.
