I had chosen Juying Secondary School because I love the facilities such as the chillax room, gym, dance studio and many more. This school is near to my house as well, so it is very convenient for me to go to school.

Juying has given me opportunities to gain confidence, through the public speaking and leadership programmes. The school has oracy programmes for JYians to improve their communication skills. Before I had my ‘Stand and deliver’ at the canteen, I used to mumble a lot of words and could not pronounce some of the words properly during my practice sessions. My English teacher, Ms Shynn, helped me and gave me feedback on how to improve. After I did my speech, I was proud that I got a high grade and I was happy with my performance. I have become less shy and am now able to come out of my comfort zone.

I chose hip hop as my CCA because I enjoy performing at school events and joining competitions. The trainings had made me a more discipline dancer and improved my dancing skills. It has helped to boost my self-confidence and talent.

My favorite teacher is Ms Shynn as she has helped me a lot in my studies, especially in my English. She buy things for us when she goes overseas and I really appreciate it very much. She is a kind, caring and a helpful teacher.

I was the chairperson of my class in secondary 1. I thought this role would be easy but as the time went by, I encountered many obstacles. Through this experience, I have learnt to become a more responsible and self-disciplined person. I was shocked and thankful when I received my ECHA and Academic Excellence award at the end of secondary 1.

Fast forward to this year, my class went to Vietnam for our Values-In-Action (VIA) and we visited an orphanage. My class donated food items to the orphanage that was home to kids with disabilities and those who had no families. We had activities to play with the kids but when it did not turn out as planned, we did not give up. Instead, we modified the activities and in the end, the kids had so much fun! We were happy that our efforts paid off.

The takeaway I have from the trip is to be appreciative of what I have now and I thank my parents for raising me up in a happy family.
