WAN HOI KIT

Secondary 3

I am Wan hoi Kit from 4E1.

InitiInitially, choosing a secondary school was hard for me as I wanted to go to the same school as most of my primary school friends thinking that it would make secondary school more fun. However, I decided to enrol into Juying Secondary School (JYSS). This is because after attending the Open House, I felt that JYSS Would give me the best opportunities to learn and grow as an individual which in fact tuned out to be very true. When I first entered the school, I was rather shy, quiet and awkward because none of my primary school were in the same school as me. However, the teachers were welcoming and that really helped me settle into my next phase of life. Another factor that helped me come to my decision was the programmes provided in JYSS, such as the Learning for Life Programme (LLP), where we were given the opportunity to learn ukelele, guzheng and hip hop. Other than the basic skills on performing arts, there are also programmes such as Applied Learning Programme(ALP) that provides workshops to improve our public speaking and presentation skills.

Throughout my four years in JYSS, the school has given me many opportunities to grow. I participated in many programmes, and most notable one being LEAD CampVision which is a 6-month long leadership programme that taught me public speaking, presentation and leadership skills. The sessions were taught by renowned trainers and working professionals who came on as volunteers to guide and develop us. After months of training, I felt more confident about myself when addressing a crowd. As the captain of my school's Basketball Co-Curricular Activity (CCA), these were important skills to pick up so that I could lead my team well.

Another opportunity was being an Exco member for the Secondary 1 Orientation Camp 2020. It was a difficult journey as I had never led such a big team in a huge event before. But I was able to learn many values and skills throughout this journey. Although it was tiring, I had fun. I felt a sense of accomplishment after the camp as we executed our plans and adapted to last minute changes.

When I was in Secondary 3, I went on an overseas exchange programme to Queensland, Australia. It was on a once-in-a-lifetime experience as I had not gone on an exchange programme before. The purpose of the programme was to expose us to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The trip showed me the differences in the education system in another part of the world.

Apart from the various programmes, the teachers in Juying are extremely helpful and kind. I am very thankful for the teachers as they care for the students' well-being. To summarise, Juying Secondary is a great place for you to discover more about yourself through numerous exciting programmes the school offers.
