Last year, like many Primary Six students, Zi Ming had no idea which secondary school he should choose. When he discussed it with me, I felt totally lost too. Just at this point, Zi Ming's CCA teacher-in-charge of rope skipping from Pioneer Primary School, Ms Chun Yan Zheng called me and told me of her intention to help Zi Ming apply for Direct School Admission (DSA). She had two schools in mind, one of which was Juying Secondary School. I brought all the required documents and went to see Ms Chun without any delay. Ms Chun was very kind and caring; not only did she fill up the forms for Zi Ming, she even went down to the schools to submit the applications personally. We are very grateful to her.
Not long after, the Vice-Principal of Juying Secondary School, Mr Peter Quah, called us to the school for an interview. Within a short time, we received good news from Mr Quah that Zi Ming had been offered a place. Zi Ming was overjoyed and decided that Juying Secondary School would be his only choice as he felt comfortable with the school. When the teacher-in-charge of the second school called him to offer him an interview, he politely rejected her without hesitation. A pleasant surprise for Zi Ming was that he was awarded a scholarship by Juying Secondary School for choosing the school as his first choice.
Zi Ming is very glad to have Mr Lee Kah Hong, a young and vibrant teacher, and Ms Ek Ben Yee, an amiable teacher as his form teachers. Not only that, all his subject teachers are very caring and dedicated. Over these past few months, he has made great improvements academically and he gives the credit to all his teachers, saying that they are wonderful and he feels lucky to be taught by them.
The Principal, Mdm Soh Beng Mui, the Vice-Principals, Mr Peter Quah and Ms Jennifer Wong, are very loving and approachable. They are always ready to communicate and give suggestions and advice whenever a need arises. Having a firm belief in life-long learning and the importance of developing students holistically, Mdm Soh Beng Mui introduced the UBS-Campvision to Juying Secondary School. Zi Ming was one of the fifteen privileged students who had the opportunity to take part in this programme. As a result of joining this programme, Zi Ming has become more sociable and outspoken.
Zi Ming feels very much at home here in Juying Secondary School, and is glad to be here where the school leaders, teachers and fellow schoolmates help him not only to improve his studies, but also to nurture his character.
