JUYING SECONDARY SCHOOL

JONATHAN LAU

SECONDARY 4

I chose Juying Secondary School because of the environment and the school culture. When I went for the open house, I felt the positive welcoming energy overflowing. Everyone had a smile on their face and I had a fun and enjoyable time, so I believe Juying Secondary will be a great school to study at.

A great experience I had was joining Prefectorial Board, which has since transited into Student Council in 2018. Being a part of the Executive Committee in 2018 for Student Council as Head of Student Affairs and leading the first batch of councilors has allowed me to grow as a leader. Being in the Student Council allowed me to find myself and discover my interests. I could express my creativity and personality through the events we organised. Throughout this journey, there were many ups and downs, but these experiences enabled me to grow as a person. Student Council is a place where one can grow and learn many skills, such as how to do event planning, and how to work and communicate with others etc. Joining the council has made my journey in Juying a very fulfilling one.

Juying offers many Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) and I am part of the Show Choir Family. Show Choir is a CCA where we sing, dance, perform and act. Being in Show Choir really helped bring me out of my comfort zone and grow as a person. I have improved my musicality and learnt life lessons that cannot be taught in class or learnt through a book. It has to be through the tough experiences and the personal struggles that one goes through. The longer I spent practicing with my CCA, the more bonded with my team and it was so hard for me to say goodbye when I had to step down this year in Secondary 4. This CCA has become a part of my family and I have gone through so many experiences with the team – the pain, the joy and the sadness. I am glad that I had chosen Show Choir as the CCA for me to develop myself.

Juying has many great teachers who care deeply about the students’ well-being and their problems, both academically and socio-emotionally. My favourite teacher is Ms Koh Shu Jiun. Ms Koh is my Elementary Math Teacher and she was also part of our Show Choir family. She is thoughtful towards her students and always wants the best for them. She will go out of her way to gather tips and conduct personal one-to-one consultation sessions for us so that we can succeed academically.

I have enjoyed every moment spent in Juying and I have never doubted or regretted choosing Juying as my secondary school. Coming here has made me a much better person and motivated me to strive for excellence!
