When I first found out that I got into Juying Secondary, I assumed my experiences were going to be similar to those lessons I had in primary school with a lot of homework. Do not get me wrong we do still have homework but I was absolutely wrong about the mundane after-school activities and facilities. Juying Secondary has so much more to offer.
One thing that I like about Juying Secondary is the amazing school facilities. Apart from the indoor sports hall and basketball court that almost all schools have, Juying Secondary provides even more interesting facilities. For example, a very tall rock climbing wall and a Chillax Room. You may be wondering what a ‘Chillax Room’ is. Well it is a facility here that allows students to relax after a long day of school. This room consists of many fun games like a pool table, gaming consoles, arcade machines and board games. This is my favourite place in school, as I have mentioned, I like playing games. It really helps students to relieve stress and take a break from revision.
You may also be wondering what co-curricular activities(CCAs) Juying Secondary offers, well let me tell you. There is a large variety of CCAs such as clubs and societies, sports and uniform groups. I am in netball which is a sports CCA. When I was choosing a CCA I was quite interested in the idea of a sports CCA, so I decided to join netball. At the time I have actually never played netball before so it was like trying something new, but sure enough with the help and guidance of the CCA teachers, I was able to adapt quickly. The teachers in charge of the CCAs are very helpful, kind, and caring as they help to guide us when we are in need of help.
Other than CCAs, there are also activities that help build life skills that are very important. For example, recently I participated in a program that allows you to develop speechcraft and public speaking skills, this is important as it helps build your confidence and ability to speak in front of a crowd. I also took part in a prototyping program that let us use prototyping to help create more efficient ways to save the environment.
Most importantly, there was one factor that made me realise that Juying was the right school for me, the sense of belonging. I did not really need anyone to help me develop this sense of belonging, it really grew over time. Maybe it was because, in Juying secondary, I felt like I could be myself and that I am accepted for who I am. it was also because of the supportive seniors, caring teachers, the comfortable environment.
I hope to see you in Juying Secondary next year.
All the best for your exams, I know you can do it! All the best in receiving your results as well.
