JUYING SECONDARY SCHOOL
JURONG PRIMARY SCHOOL (ALUMNI)

SECONDARY 2

I am Amelia, from Juying Secondary School. I graduated from Jurong Primary School in 2017 and I was from 6 Integrity.
When I first found out that I had entered JYSS, I thought that it was just a random school which involves long hours and boring lessons. I didn’t think much of it, I was just glad I could continue my education.
However, after a few weeks at JYSS, I realized that it was so much different than I imagined. Well, JYSS has a very flexible timetable which allows us to get more rest and do better in our studies. Another thing that I love is the Chillax Room. Who here gets very tired while waiting for you CCA to start? Well, in Juying, the Chillax Room is there to save you! The Chillax Room was created for students to hang out together after a long day at school or to wait for their CCA to start. It consists of a pool table, gaming consoles, arcade machines and board games etc. It really helps us de-stress after a long day and just clear our minds. This is my favourite place to go and escape the troubles.
Although this is all exciting, it could not beat one factor that made me realise that JYSS was really the right school for me. When I entered JYSS, I felt like I was accepted for who I am, and I could just be myself. There wasn’t really a specific thing, action or person that helped me develop a sense of belonging. I guess it was the accumulation of the little things that happen every day. For example, supportive seniors, caring teachers, the comfortable environment and the good friends I had made.
The same thing applies to CCAs. We have a wide variety of CCA’s such as the performing arts, uniform groups, clubs and sports. I am from the performing arts group and my CCA is Show Choir. Show Choir consists of singing, dancing and acting. At first, I had only joined show choir because I was curious about what it was all about, not because I had a passion in it. However, that changed quickly. Just like what I had talked about just now, I had developed a sense of belonging and fell in love with my CCA. It has gone to the point where I can’t even bear to leave after CCA has ended. Training for competitions such as Bdazzled and the Singapore Youth Festival is tough, but once I had become comfortable with everyone, it was so fun and memorable.
Juying Secondary provides many opportunities such as going for workshops, field trips and overseas trips. In fact, you will be able to travel when you are in Secondary 2! It’s going to be very tiring but trust me, I’ve only gone on one overseas trip to Indonesia to help build a water system for the villagers there and I can’t wait to go again. I have learnt so much, such as how to install pipes and install a fence to prevent animals from messing up what we had built. I also learnt that we really don’t appreciate Singapore enough. There are people suffering from the lack of sanitation, we already have so much given and provided to us, yet we still complain. Anyways, the trips that the school organise are really beneficial and you will enjoy them.
Even though it sounds cliché, I can promise you that you will feel like Juying is your second home.
