Goh Ying Hui

I am Ying Hui, from Juying Secondary school,

I am here to share with you more about Juying Secondary School. When I first found out that I was accepted to Juying Secondary, I thought it was just a random school with lots of homework and long hours of lessons. I did not give it much thought and I was just relieved that I could continue my education.

As I spend my days in Juying Secondary as a Secondary 1 student, it felt enjoyable and I did not have any regret in choosing this school as my 1st choice. One thing that I love so much about the school is the Chillax Room. Those who always get tired easily and have time to spare while waiting for your CCA to start, you can head to the Chillax Room for some entertainment! The Chillax Room is designed for students to hang out together after a long day of lessons or to wait for their CCA to begin. It consists of a pool table, gaming consoles, arcade machines and music instruments such as guitar. It really helps in giving students a respite from a long day and to clear their mind. This is my favourite place in the school to go to.

Although this is all exciting, the one key factor that made me realise Juying Secondary was the right choice for me is the sense of belonging. When I first entered Juying Secondary, I was warmly welcomed by the teachers and the seniors. I felt that I was part of the school, accepted for who I am. Well there wasn’t a specific person, thing or action that made me develop this sense of belonging. Personally, I guess it was just an accumulation of the bits and pieces of things that happened to me throughout the days I spent here as a student. For example, the caring teachers, supportive seniors and friends and the comfortable environment that I have.

The same thing applies to CCAs. In Juying Secondary, we have a wide variety of CCAs to choose such as Performing Arts, Sports, Clubs and Uniform groups. For me , I am from the performing arts group and my CCA is Show Choir. Show choir consists of singing, dancing and acting. Well, I join show choir as I wanted to try something different as I have not tried singing before. In Fuhua primary, my CCA was creative percussion and I enjoyed it so much especially during the performance in the Botanics garden. After months of joining Show Choir, just like what I said earlier, I had developed a sense of belonging and fell in love with the CCA to the point that I cannot bear to eave after CCA has ended . Due to Covid-19, many of our CCA sessions had been changed to Zoom sessions. Still, I have a lot of fun and enjoyed them as much as face-to-face sessions.

I can assure you that you will feel like Juying is your second home.
