My experience in Juying Secondary School is a memorable as well as a life-changing one for me. Before I joined Juying, I was shy and lacked self-confidence. However, the school has organised many programmes which help improve communication and presentation skills for JYians. I was able to utilise the skills that I had learned during Teachers’ Day celebrations and the experience was unforgettable. Mdm Ashikin had given me the opportunity to become the emcee for the event and I gave it a shot. When I was the emcee, I could see that JYians were having fun. Not to mention, they were laughing at my funny actions and lines. I was satisfied with myself as I was able to get out of my comfort zone. During my ‘Stand And Deliver’, I was proud and felt honoured that JYians and the Vice-Principal, Mr Peter Quah, were impressed with my presentation. I am thankful for the opportunities that the school and teachers have given JYians. They have greatly improved my skills and raised my confidence.
I also chose Juying because it offers a huge variety of CCAs. I chose Hip Hop as my CCA. Without any dance background, I decided to give a try. After four years in the CCA, my passion and enthusiasm for dance has increased tremendously. Performing at school events is something that I love to do. The CCA has improved my dancing skills and taught me to be resilient as well, since training is tough. As the captain, I learnt to be responsible by taking care of my teammates’ well being and motivating them during trainings and competitions. Creating friendships and experiencing special moments with them is something that I would not forget. Special moments include achieving my first championship during the Teenage Dance Competition with ‘My Alpha Nutz’, although we did not manage to clinch any awards from the previous competition, and small things such as having dinner with my CCA mates after training. I feel that JYians need to choose their CCA wisely as it will be a part of their secondary school life and surely, they will enjoy every second of it.
