School is not just a place where only education takes place. School is a place where you get to meet lifelong friends, discover and explore your passion and talents, and much more. Most importantly, it is a place where most of your youth will be spent at. In my opinion, Juying Secondary School has captured the essence of what a school should be.
Entering your next big stage of life, great amounts of support is needed for you to smoothly transition from primary to secondary school. With that being said, the passionate teachers of Juying Secondary will always be there to listen to your challenges and support you, whether it be academic, relationships and more. Aside from studies, the teachers also strive to help push their students outside of their comfort zone to become better versions of themselves.
However, the teachers' efforts to stretch your potential can only go so far. Experience is necessary for you to continue to develop as a person. In Juying, countless numbers of unique programmes, activities and opportunities are available to help students grow outside of studies. Want to boost your confidence? Become an emcee during one of the festive celebrations or join the public speaking programme in Juying. Want to strengthen your leadership capabilities? Become a Class Committee member or become one of your CCA's Executive Committee (EXCO) Member.
Personally, I became an Orientation Group Leader (OGL) at the end of secondary 3. OGLs are leaders who plan and execute the welcoming event for the incoming batch of students. At this point of time, I was still confined in my comfort zone - shy and reserved. My form teacher at the time, Ms Lynette Wong, spent a lot of her time consulting me. She told me that I was like a caterpillar waiting to become a butterfly, and this was my time to break out of my shell. Her encouragement made me realise what I had to achieve when I was an OGL - to become confident and step-up when necessary. By the end of the entire event, I found satisfaction in how I had contributed to the planning of the event. However, knowing I could have done more, regrets still linger within me. However, this was a huge step for me towards not only leadership, but also confidence, and it was thanks to Ms Wong and the opportunity of being an OGL. Overall, Juying is a school which fosters students to not only excel academically, but also prepares them for society by instilling values into them. I can proudly say that I do not have an ounce of regret enrolling into Juying Secondary School.
