Being a student of Juying Secondary School for the past three years, I have never regretted my choice. It is difficult to find a school that suits you and has teachers that are fully committed in teaching students. However, I have found mine, a school that suits me and has great and committed teachers and staff.
Other than having committed teachers, Juying also has an Applied Learning Programme which cultivates our public speaking skills as well as presentation skills. We have sessions of ‘Stand and Deliver’ during our recess where we prepare our script and share it with our schoolmates on the stage in our school canteen. I used to be afraid of presenting and had slight stage fright when holding onto a microphone. Notwithstanding my fear, I tried to conquer it and combatted it by participating in ‘Stand and Deliver’. The session has helped me overcome my fear of public speaking and has made me a confident leader. It is not just about conquering our fears, but it is also about learning a skill that will bring us far in the long run. The skill of public speaking has helped tremendously in improving our writing skills as well as expressing ourselves in our daily lives.
The school’s purpose of embarking on this programme is not just about moulding us into well-spoken students, but also to develop us as confident and expressive learners to share our thoughts and opinions towards a topic, which requires us to be thinkers who are able to see things in different perspectives. The school provides different learning platforms for us too. Learning from beyond our textbooks makes learning much more vibrant and engaging for students and I appreciate this a lot. So, do join our school for a heuristic learning experience through ‘Stand and Deliver’.
