I am Syafiqah from class 4E3.

Choosing a secondary school was difficult for me. I wanted to join a school where my primary school friends were in too but I knew that wouldn’t benefit myself in the long run. I went to Juying’s Open House and I was in awe with the different programmes that they have students! There were programmes such as Applied Learning Programme (ALP), where we can learn how to play the Ukulele, Guzheng or Hip Hop as part of our Lifelong Learning Programme. Other than that, there are also programmes that help us improve our presentation and public speaking skills.

I never once regretted my decision to join Juying Secondary. I was given so many opportunities from the school and I am really thankful for them. In Secondary 1, we had our Orientation Camp that was planned by the Secondary 4s and it was a blast! They put in so much effort in it and I really had a lot of fun during the camp. By the end of Secondary 1, I decided to join the Prefectorial Board and it has developed into Student Council. I have wanted to continue my leadership journey ever since primary school and in Juying, I was given even more opportunities in this leadership platform.

A notable leadership programme is the LEAD CampVision. In 2018, I joined LEAD CampVision. It was a 6 months training programme where youths get to explore our leadership styles and communication skills. The sessions were led by working professionals and renowned trainers. I feel really fortunate to be part of this programme. After six months of training, I was given the opportunity to be part of the group of students to engage the Guest of Honour, Madam President Halimah Yacob. These leadership experiences were very helpful as I became the President of the Student Council.

Besides school programmes, I am also very thankful for teachers in Juying. Juying has many caring and sincere teachers who are always there for us. I am very thankful to Mr Clive Aw and Mr Senthil. They noticed that I need help in Science and both of them are always very willing to help me. With their constant guidance, my grades have improved and I am more confident in that subject.

Juying is a great place with good programmes and teachers who always have our interests at heart.
