Selecting Juying Secondary School to study was our son’s decision. This was done after our visits to various Secondary Schools and the release of the PSLE results in 2016. Jin Hang felt a great sense of belonging and liked the spacious environment in the school – I remembered him sharing this with me!

My first impression of Juying Secondary School was a delightful and positive one at the Open House. The two students who brought us around on the tour were helpful and happy teens. We were very impressed by Mr. Seet and Ms. Wong whom we met that day. As school leaders, they demonstrated sincerity and genuine concerns for the children and their development. We did meet the Parent Support Group and some other teachers around the school that day and I have to say it had generated positive feelings.

Throughout the last six months, I noted that the school leaders had been very proactive and made a conscious effort to bond and connect with the parents. The school also organised parenting talks for the parents periodically on issues that are close to our hearts. Personally, I have attended the Parenting with Teens Workshop, which was very helpful to me as it helped me to understand the changes and challenges that teens are facing in today’s world and how we, as parents, can better support and engage them positively in the process. It also provided a good platform for me to meet and learn from other parents as well.

As parents, Jin Hang’s well-being is of ultimate importance to us. We wanted a caring, nurturing and encouraging environment that he will thrive in. This is essential especially during the teenage years as he begins to grow, discover and challenge himself amidst peer pressure. We believe that happy and confident children will ultimately achieve success in life. As such, we are glad to see that Jin Hang is motivated and continuously working towards excellence in order to achieve his dream in life.

He has also met many teachers who have shown their trust, faith and confidence in him. This means a lot to us as we know this will spur him on to become even better than he was yesterday and grow up to be a responsible young adult in the future.

While Juying may seem to be another ordinary neighbourhood school located at the far Western part of Singapore, I have to say that the deliverables of the school, especially the caring and dedicated principal, Mr. Seet, together with his group of committed school leaders and teachers score a distinction!

Choosing the right secondary school with the best fit and environment for your children based on their personal attributes and emotional needs is important. I strongly encourage parents to make this decision together with your children.

Cheers!
