The reason I chose Juying Secondary School is because of the different varieties of CCAs that are offered. My CCA is Juying Symphonic Band (JYSB) and I play the Euphonium. When I first joined JYSB, the seniors were very friendly and approachable. They would readily offer me support when I needed help. During my time as a recruit, I was a mischievous boy and sometimes I would skip band practices. I sometimes do not pay attention to theory lessons and get distracted easily, causing my conductor to reprimand me. However, after I joined the main band, things changed.

For our SYF in 2017, we worked hard during the December holidays and there were tutors assigned to different sections to work with. All the effort we had put in was definitely worth it as we received a certificate of accomplishment for our SYF. My conductors, Mr Jasen How and Mr Teo would always make every practice we have an interesting and fun session. In band, we were taught life lessons and values by our teachers and conductors. One of the key events I would always look forward to is CCA Camp. The purpose of having this CCA camp is to bond with people that are from a different level and to strengthen our solidarity. I had never regretted joining Juying Symphonic Band.

Another one of the key events that I definitely enjoyed was the Sec 2 Adventure Camp which was held at MOE Labrador Adventure Centre. I enjoyed the Sec 2 Adventure Camp as I got to try out different kinds of activities such as dragon boating and kayaking. There are definitely challenges faced during the activities but I managed to overcome them with the encouragement that was given by my classmates.

These activities taught me how to seek first to understand, then, to be understood. I learned how to work together with my classmates. Through this camp, I managed to know most of my classmates well and it also strengthened the unity of my class. The most memorable moment was before the day we were about to leave, we performed together as a class and the whole cohort danced the JYSS dance together. The Sec 2 Camp really made a great impact on me as it built up my confidence and interaction with my peers.
