At first, when I joined Juying Secondary School, I was quite scared and nervous as there were so many new faces, and I had no one to talk to! The environment felt slightly familiar because my brother had attended the open house, and I had gone with him when I was in Primary 3. The orientation and the first few weeks of school were amazing! There were so many activities lined up for us, including an overnight camp and a campfire. We even went to Kallang and played bubble soccer, which was super exciting and fun! These activities helped me bond with others, and I managed to make a few friends.
In Secondary 1, I became a student leader. I volunteered to be an ALP champion, which opened up so many incredible opportunities for me! That year, I gave about four presentations with my LLP partner to my class, which helped me improve my public speaking skills. I also participated in the Orator’s Trophy and ended up winning first place for the lower secondary category. In Secondary 2, I was given even greater opportunities. I delivered presentations to two cohorts and one to the entire school, achieving my goal of speaking to a larger audience. These experiences not only enhanced my public speaking skills but also helped me overcome my fear of speaking in front of large crowds. I participated in the Orator’s Trophy again and secured second place that year.
For my CCA, I chose Modern Dance (Hip Hop). I have been dancing since I was five years old and have always had a passion for it, with a slight interest in Hip Hop. My CCA helped me improve my dancing skills. When I first joined, I felt very self-conscious and anxious because I didn’t know anyone and had no prior experience in Hip Hop. However, we had bonding activities with my peers and seniors, which helped me make friends and feel more comfortable in the CCA.
I personally think Juying Secondary School is a great school, and I believe Juying will warmly accept and welcome anyone who chooses to join!
