JUYING SECONDARY SCHOOL
I chose Juying Secondary because the school piqued my interest in terms of the various facilities and CCAs it has. My cousins studied in Juying and through their recommendation, I knew that choosing Juying Secondary was the right decision. Additionally, I had received the Juying Scholarship, which motivated me to excel in my studies at Juying.
Throughout my years in Juying Secondary, there were several key events that had contributed to my character development, instilling the school values in me and building my self-confidence.
In Secondary 1, I went for a kayaking trip with my CCA members. From this trip, I learnt that teamwork is extremely essential as we needed two people to work together so that the kayak could move smoothly. It was challenging at first because communication between me and my partner was lacking, but eventually, we managed to overcome this obstacle. This trip was a memorable one and started this journey of character development for me.
In Secondary 2, my batch had an outdoor adventure camp for 3 days and 2 nights. This was one of the memories that I would never forget. This camp taught me more than just teamwork, it also taught me responsibility, perseverance and graciousness. The camp consisted of many activities such as zip-lining, rock-climbing and even caving, where the walls were made-up of artificial rocks.
Finally, in my recent and last year here in Juying Secondary, the Secondary 4 and 5 students had a bonding trip in week 1 of this year. We went to Marina Barrage to fly kites and had a picnic. Through this trip, I was able to bond with my classmates and I think that moments like these should be cherished.
Throughout my years in Juying Secondary, there have been my teachers who have impacted my life. My favourite teacher is my Form Teacher, Mr Soh Ming Quan. As a teacher, he cares a lot about his students. He is willing to motivate and help students so that they will do their best in their studies. He is someone who does not believe in ‘failures’ because he believes that everyone has great potential. Mr Soh will go as far as buying countless assessment books for his students as it will benefit them and provide them the extra help. He also conducts Saturday lessons for us, which I find very useful and effective. I do not think I have met a teacher who is extremely dedicated to his students. I am very appreciative and grateful to have a teacher like him.
I certainly am glad that I have chosen Juying Secondary as my first choice.
