Xander Zhuang

Secondary 1

I am Xander Zhuang and I graduated from the class of 6 Respect of Frontier Primary School. I am currently from Juying Secondary School and would like to share my personal feelings and experiences in Juying Secondary with you.

Firstly, let me tell you about my personal feelings about Juying’s learning environment and teachers. The learning environment there is very conducive, the classrooms are clean and although it’s hot there, there are many fans to cool you right down. The teachers are very friendly, approachable and caring, they are more than glad to answer any questions you might have and always go the extra mile to make sure that the learning experience in Juying is enjoyable and enriching. You might think that this is what we JYians are supposed to say about Juying, but it’s not, because what we are sharing with you comes from the bottom of our heart.

Secondly, I will share with you what I like about Juying and one experience that I have enjoyed the most since coming to Juying. What I like about Juying is the canteen food because it is tasty and nutritional. The teachers because they are friendly and approachable as I mentioned earlier and the programmes. An example of a programme is ALP also known as Applied Learning Programme which is a prestigious programme and only a few students would be selected if you applied. From this programme, it helps to enhance your public speaking skills, oracy skills and English language. One experience that I have enjoyed the most since coming to Juying is the Secondary 1 Orientation Camp. Because, I have made quite a lot of friends which are now my close friends and also made a lot of fun memories.

Lastly, I will tell you all why I feel that you should consider Juying as one of your choices. I feel that you should consider Juying as one of your choices because the learning environment there is great and there is a variety of canteen food, such as waffles, wanton noodles and etc. There is even a vegetarian food stall for those who are vegetarian and a western food stall for those who like western dishes such as pasta and Mac & Cheese.

The programmes are also very enriching and gives you a new experience. An example is PASSION also known as People, Arts, Sports, Science, Food Waste, ICT, Outreach and Nature. Don’t ask me which letter Food Waste represents, the just school named it that way. I was part of the Food Waste PASSION Module. We visited Tampines Hub to learn more about how they turn food waste into compost for plants which is technically fertiliser. We also brought back a few plants some with the compost mixed into the soil and some without the compost in the soil. After 5 weeks, we did a count of the leaves and measured the height of all the plants. The plants with the compost mixed into the soil obviously had more leaves and is taller than the plants without the compost mixed into the soil. At Tampines Hub, they even have a rooftop garden where they grow different types of plants.

Apart from our programmes, our school also has a room called the Chillax Room, which are made of the words chill and relax, and when you combine these words, BOOM Chillax. So, inside this room there are many different games like a racing arcade game, dancing arcade game, Xbox 360s, foosball which is table soccer and a pool table. If you do not want to play any of these games you can use your phone or enjoy the aircon.

I hope that you consider Juying as one of your choices and I hope to see some of you in Juying. Thank you.
