Rastrelliger is the common ‘mackerel’ or ‘Scomber’.

Important food fish (Fish meal, fish cake, and fish sausage).

Soft and laterally compressed body.

Bluish green to grey above and yellowish on sides of belly.

Deeply forked homocercal caudal fin.

Surface feeders.

Dorsal fin and anal fin have series of ‘finlets’.

Rastrelliger have enormous fecundity.
