• Members of jelly fish in the class scyphozoa undergoes a complex life cycle including a larval ephyral stage.
• In less than a year the ephyrae mature sexually into medusas.
• Although not mature most of the adult characteristics are present in the larval stage.
• Body parts such as the manubrium and the arms are common to both larval ephyrae and mature medusas.
• The larvae consist of a statocyst for balancing and sensing gravity.
• They also possess an ocellus for photo reception.
• Food is caught on the tentacles and oral arms by stinging cells called nematocyst.
